Herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in Canada. While STIs such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are popular as well, the asymptomatic nature of the Herpes infection makes it a lot dangerous.A survey shows that as many as 90 percent of Canadians are unaware of their herpes diagnosis.
According to statistics, 1 in 7 persons in Canada are affected with herpes, with only 0.7percent of them were infected with Chlamydia.
Out of roughly 3250 Canadians that were part of the extensive survey, only 6 percent were actually aware of their STD status, which shows the increasing risk of people accidentally infecting others they’re involved with.
The findings released by Statistics Canada also highlight the high percentage of herpes infection among women compared to men (16 percent versus 11 percent).
The prevalence of the herpes infection is said to increase with age.
According to figures, while only 6 percent people in the age group of 14 – 39 were affected, the percentage rose to 19% in people aged 35 years and above.
It is worth stating that the rate of Chlamydia is higher in America and Britain than in Canada, which certainly increases the chances of contracting herpes.
Besides, Chlamydia is a bacterial infection and it can be cured using antibiotics.
There is currently no cure for herpes but it can certainly be treated using retroviral drugs.
Toronto, one of the largest and most populous cities in Canada is said to be a hub of herpes infected singles.
